Couples Counseling

Are you feeling hurt and alone, tired of talking past each other, and desperate to actually feel heard?

Are you wanting support to navigate big transitions in your family?

Are you exhausted and feeling unsupported?

Whether you are in a new relationship and want to proactively strengthen your bond, or you are many years into a relationship and feeling hurt or disconnected, couples counseling can help you find a way forward.

In couples therapy, I help you: 1) identify patterns that your relationship is stuck in, and the roles you each play in perpetuating them, 2) Figure out what you each truly need from your partner and your relationship 3) Learn to communicate these needs effectively, so that you can be heard and feel loved in the relationship, and 4) Reconnect and remember why you value your partner and your relationship.

In our telehealth video sessions we will talk about your strengths as a couple, and use them to help you address your weak spots. We will use dynamic, in-the-moment exercises to help interrupt hurtful patterns, and create momentum towards a healthier partnership.

Therapeutic Approach

My approach to therapy is specific to each couple, and is grounded primarily in Emotion-Focused Couples Therapy, Family Systems Theory and Gottman principles. Emotion-Focused work encourages experiencing your emotions in the room to help you connect with your partner as you articulate your deeper needs. Gottman work involves increasing positive interactions in your relationship and decreasing harmful interactions in order to heal past hurts and move forward with healthier relational habits. Systems work takes into account that we all live in the context of relationships with others and within a larger sociocultural context. Through a systems lens, we can explore how you might hold onto your true self and ask for your needs to be met, while at the same time connecting with others in a way that fits with your deepest held values.
